This Initiative is set to give a family to orphans who lost both or one parent whether by death or abandonment. Burundi YMCA will take those orphans as their own, and give them to christian spouses who are volunteering within the Y and raise them up as their own children.

The statistics from the ministry of social affairs in Burundi shows that there are more than 650,000 orphans and most of them have lost both parents. They live in the street without parental care, face a high level of poverty and remain out of school.

Those orphans face many challenges including malnutrition, drug abuse, child labor and sexual exploitation, especially little girls. They were born like other children but find themselves in such dire situations.

Most of the Burundi YMCA executive committee members have lost one or both parents at their early age  and went through a lot. We know what is to be in need and don’t have someone to help you. Since 2016, God put a burden of helping orphans and children in need on our hearts and with the little we had, we provided some of the needs. This time around we want not only to provide the physical need of those orphans but we want to give them a home.

These are the first 6 orphans that we have in our care and we are hoping to receive six more by the end of the year of 2025.
